Communication
The portal home page, company updates, mandatory acknowledgements, push banners, events and polls.
The communication features answer the "know" question: what is happening in the company, and what you are required to read. Each one sits behind its own feature flag; when a flag is off, the matching section, page and menu entry are not shown. See How it works.
Home page
The home page (/portal, flag portal_intranet) greets you by name and time of day and offers Search the company and four quick actions: Report an issue, Request something, Find an answer and Track my activity. Below that you see:
- One company update at a time. Use the previous and next arrows to move through the active updates ("N of M"). View all opens Company updates, grouped into Needs action, Important and Earlier.
- Featured stories (up to three), chosen by the portal manager, with a cover image or a text-only version.
- News and Events for your audience.
- Poll, if one is open for you.
- Quick launch tiles to the tools your company uses.
- For you: your open actions, or "You are all caught up."
- Service status of the services you can see, from All operational to Major outage.
Each section loads on its own; if one cannot load, it shows Try again without affecting the rest of the page. The portal is responsive and works on phones.
Portal managers decide which sections appear and in which order; see Portal administration.
The editorial home is available behind
portal_intranet. A default-on rollout for all tenants and the retirement of the older widget home are planned — not yet available.
Company updates, news and publications
Publications (flag tenant_publications) are company updates and documents written by the portal team.
- News & events lists everything published for you, with topic filters, search and Load more.
- The publications library under People adds document types such as policies and playbooks, owners and review dates.
- Opening a publication shows the text and attachments. Attachments are virus-scanned before anyone can open them.
A publication is visible only to its audience and only between its publish and expiry time. Drafts, future and expired items and content for other audiences are never sent to your browser.
Mandatory acknowledgements
A publication or banner can require your confirmation, for example a new security policy (flag publication_acknowledgements).
- It appears under Needs action and in My activity until you click Acknowledge.
- TENSOR records the receipt together with an audit entry in the same step.
- The receipt cannot be undone or deleted. If a policy was sent by mistake, the portal team retires and replaces it.
- Compliance officers see how many people have acknowledged.
Whoever wrote a publication that requires acknowledgement cannot publish it; another portal manager must. This rule is always on.
With the first receipt, publication_acknowledgements becomes sticky: it can only be switched off with a reason and a second approver. See Compliance.
Push banners
Banners (flag portal_banners) are short notices at the top of the home page with severity Info, Warning or Critical, an optional icon and tone.
- You can dismiss a dismissible banner; it then stays hidden for you.
- A mandatory banner shows This notice cannot be dismissed. and, if it serves a regulated purpose, asks for an acknowledgement.
- A critical or mandatory banner cannot be published by its author.
- A tone never replaces the message text, and TENSOR rejects tones that contradict the severity.
portal_banners becomes sticky with the first banner receipt.
Events
Events (flag portal_events) show title, date and time, location and an optional external link (Join) with Add to calendar. Switch between Upcoming and Past events.
Registration happens on the linked page; TENSOR stores no attendee data.
Polls
Polls (flag portal_polls) have one to five questions with a scale, slider or choice.
- Anonymous by default. A poll marked Anonymous stores your answer without your name, and a separate token only prevents you from voting twice. You can vote only once, and an anonymous vote cannot be changed afterwards.
- Results threshold. Results (How colleagues responded) appear after you vote and only once at least the minimum number of colleagues has responded (five by default). Until then you see Results are on the way.
- Works council first. A poll cannot be opened until the works-council acknowledgement is recorded. A mandatory poll must be opened by someone other than its author.
- Closing is final. Closing freezes the results. A closed poll is not reopened; publish a new one instead.
